The Art & Dance of Isadora Duncan: Fall 2017 Youth Classes

Dance Exchange

37117 Maple Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912

This fall, Word Dance Theater will offer seasonally-themed youth dance classes that explore the human experience within the natural world. In embodying and dancing the beauty of autumn, our young dancers will bid farewell to summer, celebrate the harvest, and greet winter through improvisation and myth-based dances in the legacy of Isadora Duncan.

Students will explore how the motions of water, wind, and trees inspire the natural movements of the human body while they learn to honor the dance within themselves and each other. This imaginative work will support the basic locomotor skills of skipping, leaping, and waltzing, and will foster individual and collective grace, honor, heroism, pride, and freedom. Duncan Technique

 12:15-1:45pm

Joy of Motion Friendship Heights
5207 Wisconsin Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20015

This class is designed to find or re-gain the joy of movement, and to deepen in your movement practice. The Duncan technique is accessible, and very effective in helping us to integrate life into our dance and dance into our life. It is an excellent dance foundation that will complement all dance styles. Learn 1. The use of breath as the initiation of movement, 2. Expression through movement, and 3. Organic technique. We will build cardiovascular strength and increase flexibility through our floor work, barre, and locomotor motifs from the dances of Isadora Duncan.
