Word Dance Theater offers adult classes in the Washington, DC area. Classes feature the Duncan technique, focusing on natural movements, inspired by beautiful music, poetry, and art in a nurturing dance environment.

Movers of all abilities are welcome. No experience is required.

Mar 9-10, 2018    Weekend Intensive with Jeanne Bresciani

In keeping with WDT’s mission to perpetuate the Duncan legacy, we provide opportunities to study with legendary Duncan pioneer, Jeanne Bresciani. Jeanne is recognized nationally and internationally as a solo performer, choreographer, educator, and scholar of unparalleled authority on Isadora Duncan’s life, works, and performance repertoire. She is the Director of the Isadora Duncan International Institute, www.idii.org

Monthly classes are a unique combination of seated breath work with gentle stretching movements, leading to standing balance work and ending with joyous and simple movement through the studio, all accompanied by beautiful music.  The class is led by Cynthia Word, who brings 40 years of experience as a professional dancer and master teacher.

 

Sep 5-Dec 12    The Art & Dance of Isadora Duncan: Fall 2017 Youth Classes

 

This fall, Word Dance Theater will offer seasonally-themed youth dance classes that explore the human experience within the natural world. In embodying and dancing the beauty of autumn, our young dancers will bid farewell to summer, celebrate the harvest, and greet winter through improvisation and myth-based dances in the legacy of Isadora Duncan.

 

Aug 11-13    Isadora Duncan International Symposium

 

The Isadora Duncan International Symposium (IDIS) is an organization for the international community of practitioners of the philosophy, technique, choreography and legacy of Isadora Duncan. IDIS provides opportunities in which practitioners can share work, learn best practices, and develop new colleagues, thus strengthening and enlarging the existing world-wide Duncan community in order to expand the reach and impact of Isadora’s revolutionary ideas. Jun 14-Aug 13  Studio to Stage Dance Classes & Performance
